Crystal connections - smd

Post by Francis » Thu Mar 18, 2010 10:36 am

On those little SMD crystal eg Abracon ABM3B (http://www.abracon.com/Resonators/abm3b.pdf)
they have 4 pads.
2 for the crystal and 2 for GND.
Do they need BOTH gnds connected?
(Please say if that's a guesstimate or if factual).
I can't get an answer from Abracon.

Guestimate (educated one tho) is that a single ground could be connected as they will most likely be internally connected to the metal can, easy test is to test for continuity ftom one ground to the other , if they are short then only 1 definitely needs a ground connection
If you can read this you are too close

Sounds good to me - in the last 10 mins Abracon emailed me to confirm one ground connection is fine.

(I'd only ordered from Fartnell today so couldn't test - just planning ahead)

Thanks.
