Hi i've been having some problems programming recently and i installed the most recent pickit 3 programmer software that i could find (Ver 3.0) the pic 18f27j53 seems to be missing from the list.
Am i missing something? is the device support linked to mplab?
Any Ideas?

They seem to have gone from bad to worse with the PICkit3.
The latest Scripting tool V3.0 download basically turns your PICkit3 into a PICkit2, so it only supports the same devices that the old PICkit2 did!
It also makes it useless with MPLAB unless you re-flash it back.
The original standalone app is still available at http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/D ... etup_A.zip, but it hasn't been updated for new devices either (although it does support the J53 series).
Maybe they'll get it right by version 4...

I haven't tried some of the later user dat files for the PK2, but from all accounts they seem to work too. I tried the V3 scripting tool at first, but got rid of it since I use MPLAB for debugging and I'd constantly be reflashing the darn thing. It does enough of that already on its own.
You wouldn't have to do the whole MPLABX switchover... I know the current MPLAB (v8.90) has support for the J53 since I'm using it right now.
